If you could do one thing to improve the real sale value of your home, what would it be? For an increasing number of people looking to sell their home the answer is simple, hire a stylist.

Property styling, or staging as it is known in the USA, is a hot new trend in real estate and according to the experts there’s a good reason for this - it works! Styling is said to be a small investment for a huge return, with many experts claiming that clients not only sell their properties faster but also at a higher price.

So how do us non-experts style to sell?

A quick browse of any real estate site will point you in the direction of throw cushions. But cushions and fresh flowers are really the icing on the cake, the first thing you need is a plan.

At Dome Property Styling, a plan usually starts with a consultation where the stylists get a better idea of your goals for the property before deciding on whether or not you want to go with partial styling - where you may have pieces that can be used and only need to hire a few items or accessories -  or a full styling packages, a popular choice for people with properties that aren’t furnished.

However, even without hiring a stylist, there are simple things you can do to improve the sale value of your home.

  1. Declutter. A room that isn’t full of clutter feels bigger, airy and open - it also gives buyers a chance to really appreciate the space and imagine their own belongings filling it.
  2. Make it sparkle! Clean, bright and sparkly should be your mantra. Whether this means coating the walls with a lick of paint, cleaning windows or fixing leaking taps, you want to make each room look as good as possible.
  3. Set the scene. Simple staging tricks like accent cushions, mirrors to make the space appear bigger, and good lighting can help to create a spacious and welcoming feeling that’s sure to attract the attention of potential buyers.
