Take a walk around the Inner West over the weekend and you may notice a new addition to the traditional brick-and-mortar retail store: the pop-up shop. What was once thought of as a passing fad, pop-up shops, as the name so aptly suggests, have been popping up exponentially across Australia’s retail strips and sidewalks.

A growing avenue for retailers seeking to test out new areas or provide an alternative shopping experience, pop-up shops are also changing the real estate market.

City of Sydney Council reports an increase in the number of people signing up for their own unique take on the popular trend as well as the knock-on effect of a rise in casual leases. Locally, the latest addition to the pop-up craze is taking place in the heart of Marrickville as baby fashion label Lush Arena opens it doors to the public at their new, temporary, address.

“We’re back,” the store’s owners said smiling broadly. “We’ve re-opened, however, we’ve temporarily relocated to a bigger space to allow us to display the new season range.” The pop-up store, filled with Australian labels, is just a stone’s throw from Marrickville train station.

Lining the temporary store walls are a plethora of Australian designers and budget items, ranging from baby to toddler. From Sooki Baby to Milk & Soda, there is something for everyone as we eagerly await the start of summer.

The tiny outfits are not the only miniature items on display, with Lush Arena offering past season stock up to 70% off, in addition to 10% of all new season styles. So make room in the boot of the car or dust off the Opal card and pop-in to the latest pop-up trend. But hurry, Lush Arena will be changing location in 4-6 weeks.
